Zhenya Shevchenko of Galicia Glassworks is a glass artist from Gray, Maine with more than fourteen years experience in flame-working. Flame-working (also known as lamp-working) is a form of hot glass art in which solid rods of transparent and colored glass are heated with a torch and then fused, cut, and shaped. "Galicia" is the name of the region where Zhenya came from-it is an ancient region that covers an area that is now modern day Ukraine and Poland. Many of his sculptures are caricatures of real animals and plants. Others are imaginary creatures suggestive of "cartooning in glass."
